    Athienitiko Loukoumi

    Athienitiko loukoumi is the traditional wedding treat of the community and has been registered in the UNESCO National Catalogue of Intangible Cultural Heritage as a unique custom of Athienou.

    It is a semolina and butter biscuit, filled with almonds and generously dusted with powdered sugar, reminiscent of classic kourabiedes but with its own distinctive recipe and technique. Traditionally, the women of the village would gather in homes to prepare the loukoumia before a wedding, turning the preparation into a social event with songs, stories, and collaboration.
